Are you ready for a little comfort? I definitely hope because we share the BEST chicken and dumpling recipe today. This old-fashioned chicken and dumpling recipe is made from scratch, but do not be frightened, all the steps are easy to follow and the final results are worth it.

You can’t go wrong with a large bowl of chicken and dumplings, it’s like wearing your favorite comfortable sweater on a cold day…but maybe even better. Chicken and dumplings are all kinds of comfortable. This recipe combines chicken, vegetables, delicious broth, plump and tender dumplings, the perfect recipe for a warm and hearty meal.

This recipe for chicken and dumplings comes from Chrissy Teigen’s new cookbook, “Cravings: Hungry For More.” I LOVED Chrissy Teigen’s first cookbook, so I knew I’d love the second. It’s just as good, if not better. It’s packed with delicious recipes and great photos that are sure to make you hungry for more. And I am a girl fan of Chrissy and John, they are great couple goals and have the cutest little family. This cookbook is a winner and I think you will agree after making the chicken and dumplings easy. Josh and the boys love her!

How to make homemade chicken and dumplings

To make chicken and dumplings, start with the value of a whole chicken from chicken, bones and everything. You use the chicken to create the most amazing broth for the soup, AND you shred the chicken so that the soup has beautiful large pieces of chicken.

First, season the chicken with salt and pepper and fry in a large saucepan. Add water, bay leaf, thyme, rosemary, salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for an hour. While the chicken is cooking, you have my permission to take a nap or read a book.

Filter the broth, using a sieve, and discard the fat if you want. Use two forks to pick the chicken from the bones.

Then you will fry the onion, carrots and celery and add to the broth, chicken meat, potato and cook until the broth thickens, it will take about 20 minutes. At this point, you can stir in thick cream to make the chicken and dumplings very rich and creamy. I say, go! Bring extra Comfort.

While the broth is simmering, make the dumpling dough. Dumplings are simple, you only need one egg, milk, butter, flour, baking powder and salt. The key to making fluffy dumplings is not to overmix the dough. The dough gets thick and that’s ok. If you mix the dumpling too much, you will end up with hard dumplings and no one wants a hard dumpling.

Pour the dumpling dough into the quivering soup and cook until the dumplings are soft and soft, about 15 minutes.
Divide the soup into bowls and enter the comfort zone!

Chicken and dumplings are the perfect recipe for a cold day or if you just feel like GOOD comfort food. We love making this recipe on the weekend because it takes a little time, but it’s not hard, I promise.
